Jim Beasley Jr. has been at the Firm full time since January, 1994 and has received both his medical and legal degrees from The University of Pennsylvania. In May, 2003, Jim obtained a LL.M. in trial advocacy from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, graduating with honors. For undergraduate training, Jim attended Temple University, graduating cum laude. He received a B.S. degree while pursuing the honors biology program, concentrating his studies and research in molecular biology and neurogenetics. He also acquired a minor in History.
His career is focused towards complex trial work in medical malpractice, aviation law, defamation, and complex, innovative cases such as the 9-11 terror litigation. Jim has been a guest on the “Today” show, “Good Morning America,” Fox News’ morning show and “Hannity and Colmes” to discuss his legal work, particularly as it relates to the September 11, 2001 terrorist litigation. In that landmark case, Jim, Jr., along with Jim, Sr. and Slade McLaughlin of the Firm, were the first to link the Republic of Iraq to bin Laden’s “al Qaeda” terror network, and in the process obtained a $104 million verdict against those defendants on behalf of 9-11 victims. Among other professional memberships, Jim is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and sits on the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association. Jim was recently named one of Pennsylvania’s “Super Lawyers for 2004” by his colleagues in a survey conducted by Law and Politics, Inc. and Philadelphia Magazine.
Jim is also an accomplished pilot, having been commercially rated for over a decade, although he has been around aircraft for his entire life. He presently holds commercial, multi-engine instrument ratings with an aerobatic waiver to the surface and a rating to fly complex turbine powered aircraft. He has logged over 3000 hours in high performance World War Two and Korean War aircraft such as the P-51D Mustang, the F4U-1 Corsair, the F-86 “Sabre,” and the AT-6 Texan. He is one of seven formation flight checkpilots in the United States for advanced flight training in World War II era fighter aircraft. Jim is one of twelve “Heritage Flight” pilots authorized by the United States Air Force to fly aerial demonstrations with the modern military aircraft as well as performing solo and formation aerobatics at airshows. He also races motorcycles and has climbed to Everest’s Base Camp. This unique combination of skills in the medical, legal and aviation arenas affords Jim the ability to effectively evaluate and pursue a claim on behalf of the Firm’s clients. In October, 2000, jury verdicts of $55 million and $100 million were obtained in two medical malpractice cases in which Jim developed the negligence theories and assisted with trial strategies. Most recently, in May, 2003, Jim obtained a $4.1 million verdict for relatives of a man who died due to a delay in the diagnosis of tongue cancer.
Jim was born and raised in the Philadelphia area and is married with three children.
