Katherine M. Morris is an experienced “hands on” litigator, equally adept on both sides of the aisle representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Kathi began her practice of law in the areas of personal injury and class action litigation, and now also practices in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Condominium Law, Construction and Real Estate issues.
Kathi believes ongoing, open communication with her clients is essential, as many times litigation may be avoided if business disputes can be explored at an early stage and a reasonable settlement negotiated. When litigation becomes a reality, Kathi’s clients trust her comprehensive understanding of their position, aggressive litigation strategy and experience in the courtroom to guide them from discovery to trial to post trial representation.
Kathi brings an extensive business background that assists her in counseling and advising her clients. Her first-hand knowledge and understanding of the issues her business clients face brings a perspective that few attorneys can offer.
Prior to attending law school, she was highly successful in the casino industry, serving as a Casino Host/Credit Executive at the Sands Hotel and Casino and as an Executive Casino Host at the Claridge Hotel and Casino. She was part of the team that developed the first gaming rewards card in the Atlantic City industry. While completing her undergraduate studies, Kathi was a department manager at Macy’s, responsible for retail departments that grossed more than $3.25 million annually.
Kathi has represented real estate agents and agencies, builders, developers, professionals and businesses in wide ranging litigation. She has contributed to defining issues in New Jersey law including:
Remax of New Jersey, Inc. v. Wausau Insurance Companies, et al., in which the New Jersey Supreme Court defined the standard for real estate sales agents under the Real Estate Brokers and Salesmen Act, particular to the Remax system of employment, as "employees" rather the "independent contractors" for workers’ compensation insurance;Michael Einwechter and Wanda Einwechter v. Marciano and Hammel, et als, which held as an issue of first impression that employees’ wives were eligible for compensation for their per quod claims under the underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage of the employer’s business auto policy; andTaylor v. De Losso et als, one of the three top New Jersey cases which establish that in a professional negligence case, an expert cannot opine on the standard of care using an "accepted practice" formula, personal to the expert, but must include in its opinion evidential support establishing the existence of the standard.
Serving as Solicitor for the Pinelands Regional Growth District municipality for many years, Kathi also is well versed in issues pertaining to the New Jersey Pinelands Preservation Act and the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law.
