Description

Jennifer K. Payne graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in history from North Carolina Central University in 2005. She then completed her coursework towards a Master’s degree in history at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte while holding a graduate assistantship and maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. Jennifer’s work on an architectural survey for the Town of Davidson, North Carolina, served as the basis for the Town’s successful application for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

Jennifer graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2010 and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar that year. While in school, Jennifer gained hands-on experience through internships in several firms that practiced family law. She also focused her coursework during law school on the study of family law, including a seminar on Children and Domestic Violence in which she paired with the Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina as a guardian ad litem for children whose parents were involved in high-conflict custody cases.

Since graduation, Jennifer has worked diligently in her representation of clients in an array of family law cases, including high-conflict custody cases, termination of parental rights proceedings, adoptions, spousal support cases and equitable distribution matters. Jennifer was nominated as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2016 and has received a strong rating from Avvo. She is also certified as a family financial mediator and helps to facilitate conversations between parties that help them find the best outcome for their cases.

Jennifer also values working to create a stronger community. She has volunteered with the guardian ad litem program in Forsyth County to advocate for children in abuse, neglect, and dependency situations; and with the 4ALL and Lawyer on the Line programs and serves on the North Carolina Bar Association committees for both of those programs, as well as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. Jennifer also currently serves on the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for the Winston-Salem minority/ Women Business Enterprise Program. Jennifer has also volunteered with Crisis Control Ministries.

Jennifer lives in Winston-Salem with her husband, Chris, and their two civilian dogs and one puppy that she is raising through Canine Companions for Independence, a national group that provides service dogs free of cost to people who qualify. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys cooking, hiking, gardening, reading, and exploring new music
