Attorney Stewart Rojo’s first love was music. He learned to play guitar and started playing in popular/dance/rock bands at the age of 15. He went to on to major in music at Lamar University in Beaumont. He took a two year hiatus from college and toured the country with his band. He eventually returned to finish his Music degree and married his childhood sweetheart. He had a young family to support so he made the difficult decision to stop playing music professionally and begin a career that was better suited to raising a family. He wanted to stay involved with music so he began a fulltime job as a band director for a Texas High School and Jr. High.
As much as he loved music he soon realized that teaching music and playing music professionally were not the same. He knew he needed to make a career change to something that he would enjoy and also benefit his future and that of his young family. After much contemplation he decided to go to law school.
After graduating from The Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, he returned to Austin and started working for the Texas Attorney General’s Office. He then moved over to the City of Austin Law Department where he worked as a prosecutor for six years.
It was there that he gained a special knowledge of Traffic and Misdemeanor law handling thousands of cases and trying hundreds of Bench and Jury Trials. He soon realized he was more inclined to help the people he was hired to prosecute so he became a defense attorney and has never looked back.
He focuses on representing the everyday person who finds themselves dealing with a traffic ticket or other misdemeanor violation of the law. He also represents a number of professional drivers like Cab drivers, Uber drivers, Commercial Driver’s License Holders (CDL) and since he lives at the home of The University of Texas, and, several other colleges, a tremendous amount of young people who have received traffic, alcohol or drug violations.
He has discovered it is not necessarily what you know but who you know. In other words he has built important relationships with Courts, Judges, Prosecutors and Court Clerks (the most important person to have on your side) with his honest and professional handling of cases. He is well respected by the people who matter the most and that is a big reason why he is able to have so much success in representing his clients.
“In my time as a Prosecutor, I discovered I wanted to help people with their problems rather than try to punish them with fines or jail time. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt and would find myself trying to figure out a way to help them rather than prosecute them. I realized I was better suited to helping people rather than opposing them. That is why I became a Defense Attorney. I believe that most people should have a second chance and sometimes even a third or fourth chance. I feel that my passion and zealous advocacy for my clients shines through with those who make the court decisions and allows me to be so successful in helping my clients with their problems”.
