With over thirty years of experience as a trial attorney, John B. Simpson has handled a number of high stakes legal matters as a Charlottesville Employment Law Attorney and as a Charlottesville Commercial Litigation Attorney. John’s trial practice in both state and federal courts is diverse, as he has handled cases ranging from a non-competition clause arising out of the sale of a $47M California business, to hotly contested employment discrimination disputes, to complex real estate battles. In addition to his employment law and commercial litigation practice, John also devotes a substantial portion of his practice to domestic relations litigation.

John particularly excels in defending the "little guy" against huge corporations whether the corporation in question is a massive bank, an enormous government contractor, or a large investment corporation. John enjoys representing his clients in these situations even against significant law firms and has demonstrated a strong skill in getting to the true essence of a case.

John was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduating seven years ahead of Barack Obama from Punahou School, John completed his undergraduate education at Colgate University and law school at the University of Hawaii School of Law. John looks to his initial employment as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Hawaii in 1981 as instrumental in developing the practice skills he utilizes as a Virginia Employment Law Attorney and as a Charlottesville Commercial Litigation Attorney.

Although John is licensed to practice in both Hawaii and Virginia, since 1996 he has centered his civil trial practice in Charlottesville, Virginia, representing clients in federal and state trial and appellate courts as well as in mediations and arbitrations. John is married and has three daughters.

John has represented employees and employers in both federal and state trial and appellate courts in employment discrimination claims; in claims alleging breaches of employment agreements, including noncompetition, confidentiality, nonsolicitation, and noninterference contracts and provisions; in FLSA wage and hour disputes involving overtime pay for employees in a variety of industries; in whistleblower claims for employees under the False Claims Act and other whistleblower claims; in sexual assault claims arising out of the workplace, and complicated shareholder disputes arising out of the employment relationship.

John has vast experience in a wide variety of commercial litigation disputes, including real estate disputes, land use litigation, zoning appeals, employment litigation, overtime litigation, mechanics lien matters, estate and probate litigation, injunctions, landlocked property easement disputes, temporary restraining orders, breach of contract disputes, uniform commercial code matters, shareholder disputes, limited liability company disputes, tortious interference claims, business torts, class action litigation, and fraudulent transfers.
